SFA Youth Cup 1st Round
Saints (10) v Edinburgh City (0)
Attendance [110]

The Under 19s comfortably progressed to the second round of the SFA Youth Cup this afternoon with a 10-0 win over Edinburgh City at McDiarmid Park.

Stevie May netted a hat trick and there were braces for Liam Caddis and Mark Durnan (pictured) while Stevie Reynolds, Martyn Shields and Kieran O’Hear were also on target.

Saints gained control of the match from the kick off and were ahead in just 90 seconds when Johnny Lindsay released Steven Reynolds down the left and his low cross was converted by the unmarked Liam Caddis.

The East of Scotland League side had a couple of half-chances from crosses but Saints doubled their lead in 21 minutes when Darren Kelly fed Reynolds and the big striker was again the provider with a chipped cross which was headed home by Stevie May.

Johnny Lindsay hit the bar before Saints extended their lead further in 37 minutes.

City had come close with a header from their corner kick being cleared off the line and Saints keeper Zander Clark did well to punch and then gather the ball as the attack continued and it proved to be a costly miss for the visitors as Clark then released the ball upfield and Reynolds laid on his third goal with a pinpoint cross to the head of Stevie May for 3-0.

Saints made the tie secure before half-time from the penalty spot and this time it Was Reynolds chance to get his name on the scoresheet having set up the first three – he netted from 12 yards after being upended as he chased a long ball from Ricky McIntosh into the box.

The second half was a procession towards the hard-working visitors goal and Saints added a further two goals within three minutes of the restart – a Mark Durnan effort being judged to have crossed the line by the assistant referee and then Stevie May completing his hat trick with yet another header.

In 72 minutes, Martyn Shields lofted one over the keeper just minutes after coming on as a substitute before Liam Caddis, Kieran O’Hear add goals eight and nine.

It was left to centre half Mark Durnan to head home a Caddis corner with the final touch of the match to put Saints into double figures against an Edinburgh City side who tried hard throughout the match but were simply outclassed.

SAINTS: Clark, Sullivan, Lindsay, Hemsley (Sheilds), Durnan, Alexander, Caddis, Kelly (O’Hear), Reynolds, May, McIntosh (Henry).
