Alex Ferguson: Latest loan served me well
9th May 2024
Alex Ferguson was pleased to pick up plenty of minutes during his latest loan experience at Queen of the South.
In what was a tight finish to the season, the midfielder helped the Dumfries-based club secure Scottish League One safety.
Ferguson, who previously spent time on loan at East Fife, said: “It wasn’t the best season for the team but, personally, I managed to play over 30 games and that is what I wanted to do – play as much as possible.
“It was good that we managed to get out of the situation we were in. It is always about learning.
“Compared to last year when I was in League Two, this season there were a couple of full-time teams so I feel it benefitted me. I noticed the difference compared to playing part-time teams every week. I felt the games were quicker in pace and everyone is that bit sharper.
“I’ve played a lot of games now and have picked up a lot of experience. Hopefully that helps me moving forward. Even from the start of this year, I feel like I have progressed more.”
Ferguson has continued to add versatility to his game across the past few months.
“I’ve been chucked in a few different positions this year,” he smiled. “But anywhere in the midfield is alright with me.
“I’ve played left attacking midfield, in behind the striker or in deeper roles too. I was just happy to be playing.”
