Ellie May Cowie named Player of the Month

Ellie May Cowie has been voted SWPL2 Player of the Month for March.

Cowie, who has been deployed at left wing-back for the majority of this season, netted three goals across the month as well as playing a key role in strong defensive performances.

Saints currently sit fourth in SWPL2 and are looking to apply further pressure on third-placed Livingston.

On her award, Cowie made sure to turn the spotlight on her team-mates and said: “It was a successful month not just for myself, but for the whole club. We had a good month and the performances from everyone were outstanding.

“All of the girls came together and showed the determination, desire and cohesion in the group at the moment.

“Our performances have shown that we’re in a good place right now and we’re looking to pick up as many points as possible in the last six games.

“This award is for the whole team. I wouldn’t be able to do it without them and I can’t thank all of the girls enough because they have been a great support.”

Cowie has netted 11 goals so far this campaign and is determined to keep playing her part as the season reaches its latter stages.

She added: “I said at the start of the year that I wanted to score more goals and be a bit more consistent. I’ve managed to do that and that really boosts my own confidence.

“It’s nice knowing I can help the team achieve three points on a Sunday. It’s massive thing for me to help the team.”

Saints welcome Gartcairn to the Riverside this Sunday for a 1pm kick-off.

Cowie said: “I’m excited for this weekend and we know it will be a really hard game. It was tight the last time against them where both teams had a lot of chances.

“Hopefully we can capitalise on the chances we do get and put in a solid defensive performance. That comes not only from the backline and goalkeeper, but the front of the team too.”
