INTERVIEW WITH 'EASTY'

INTERVIEW WITH 'EASTY'

26th July 2016

Ahead of St Johnstone’s game against Inverness, injured defender Brian Easton gave his thoughts to the St. Johnstone website on life at Saints; past, present and future.

On this season:

“We’ve been really pleased with it, at the start of the season we set ourselves the target of getting top six again and we’ve managed that. We are still hoping we can finish up as high as we can but overall it has been a good season.”

On his current injury:

“I had a wee thigh strain, I was hoping to be back for this game (Inverness at home) but it got aggravated during the week at training, it’s not too bad and I’ll hopefully be back for the last three games.”

On the back-to-back matches against Dundee:

“When we played them here top six wasn’t secured yet so it was really important that we won that, it was 1-0 and we felt comfortable. Last week I was on the bench watching the boys and it was so comfortable all the way through the game, we were well worthy winners!”

On the ‘team of the season’ and some possible Saints inclusions:

“I think St Johnstone always seem to get overlooked a little bit, and we don’t mind that. I think this season we’ve not had any major stand outs, it’s been more of a full team performance the whole season. Michael O’Halloran and Chris Millar are doing really well this season for us and overall I think we’ve put in some really good team performances.”

On next season:

“I think a lot of the boys are going to be here next season which is important for us, we’ve obviously grown to know each other well and we’ve gelled as a team really well, to get that continuity in your squad is important. We’ll see what happens in the summer, there is always boys coming in and going out so hopefully the gaffer does what he has done the last couple of seasons and bring in some good players to strengthen us and we can push on next season.”

On playing in Europe:

“It’s a great experience, going to places you’ve have never been to before, playing teams you don’t know much about. It’s great testing yourself against teams like Luzern and Spartak Trnava. Once you’ve had a taste of it, you want more of it.

“It’s huge for a team like St Johnstone, we might not have the biggest crowds in the world every week but they really get behind the team and give us great support so it’s great to be able to pay them back, I think they must be loving being a St Johnstone fan at the moment”.

On his plans for the summer:

“It feels like quite a long season because we were in quite early for Europe, the season started in July so I’m looking forward to putting my feet up for a bit and I’ll be over to Canada to visit a few friends. Apart from that I’ve not really decided, I’ll see how much time we get off, whether we are in early or not”.
