Goalkeeper Jordan Millar last week completed a Development Loan to Ladbrokes League Two side Montrose until January.

The 18-year-old, from Glenrothes, was on loan last season to East Fife and featured a number of times in the SPFL Development League for St. Johnstone.

He is now the sixth member of the Saints Development (U20’s) squad to go out on loan, following similar deals for Ally Gilchrist (Peterhead), Jason Kerr (East Fife), George Hunter, Liam Gordon and Mark Hurst (all Elgin City).

Following the deal, Jordan said: “Obviously I'd like to think I'll be challenging for a first team jersey at Montrose, thanks to my loan I can also play for the U20's midweek but the priority is to get as many first team appearances as I can for Montrose.”

The Gable Endies narrowly avoided being the first-ever side to be relegated from the Scottish Professional Football League, when two late goals secured a 3-2 aggregate victory over Brora Rangers of the Highland League in May.

“First of all the ambition is for the team to do much better than last year. I felt for them last season as nothing was going right for them.

“We’ll definitely be looking to push into that top four and I'll be looking for as much game time as possible.”

Jordan will this season come up against the team he was on loan to last season, as Montrose will be up against East Fife. The first match between the sides takes place on 26th September at Links Park.

“It was just a good experience to be playing in a professional league. I think it was 9 appearances I made in total and I enjoyed my time there, so when Montrose came in with an offer I was excited to go and play in the Ladbrokes League Two again.”

Before moving to Saints, Jordan also featured for the academy sides at Raith Rovers and Hearts.

“When I was with Raith, Hearts came in for me. They were my boyhood club and the academy director at Raith thought a move there would be better for my development. When I first found out Hearts were releasing me Steve Banks was interested in taking me here and after a few days training at Saints I knew I'd be in good hands if I signed for St Johnstone.

“Definitely training with them (Alan Mannus, Zander Clark and Mark Hurst) day in day out has no doubt improved my game. Having George (Browning) and Steve (Banks) as coaches was obviously a big reason I came here and they've been great with me. I'm good friends with all the young keepers here but we're all desperate to take each other's places and push into the first team. “

The Development Loan deal will also allow Jordan to feature for the U20’s side, which has it’s first match of the season next Tuesday at Partick Thistle.

“We have a very good team this year we'll just need to be careful we don't overuse players as a lot of them will be playing on Saturdays. It's not as bad for me because goalkeepers don't do quite as much running! Other than that I think we can push up the 20's league this season, I have no doubts about that.”
