LADBROKES SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP: SAINTS 3-4 ABERDEEN

26th July 2016

Two late goals from Steven Anderson and Tam Scobbie, his first for the club, were not enough to prevent Saints from going down 4-3 to Aberdeen in Perth.

The Dons, with only goal difference preventing them from topping the Premiership table tonight, took an early lead through top scorer Adam Rooney in the 5th minute. This lead was added to by a strike from former St. Johnstone loanee Peter Pawlett after 21 minutes.

However, Saints came out in the second half in more determined mood and pulled themselves back into the game through David Wotherspoon. But the early second half dominance counted for nothing when substitute Niall McGinn grabbed Dons' third goal on 71 minutes before Rooney grabbed his second goal of the afternoon 6 minutes later.

It looked as if the game might be heading for a repeat of the 5-1 scoreline Saints managed to inflict on Aberdeen back in October, but Anderson and Scobbie's goals made the result more respectable for the home side.

A Tayside derby beckons next Friday night as St. Johnstone look to pick up their first win since the 5th of December with a win over Dundee at Dens Park.
