WEEKEND ROUND-UP: SAINTEES ON LOAN

26th July 2016

There are a number of Saints' talented young players currently out on loan in the Scottish Professional Football League, and below is a breakdown how each got on over the past weekend.

Dunfermline Athletic

Saints defender Brad McKay joined Dunfermline on loan in January, and played the full game in their 2-0 win against Ayr United. Dunfermline were the far dominant side in the game, and Brad will be pleased that his side managed to keep a clean sheet.

East Fife

Jason Kerr's side East Fife were a little more fortunate on Saturday, running out 4-2 winners against Annan Athletic. The young defender played the full 90 minutes, and though two goals were conceded by The Fifers, he helped his teammates record a convincing win that sees them go top of the Ladbrokes Scottish League 2.

Elgin City

While Saints striker Kyle Lander remained on the bench for Elgin's meeting with Clyde at the weekend, Connor McLaren started out wide and Mark Hurst was in the starting 11 in goal. Hurst was somewhat unfortunate when some slack defending saw Clyde go in front with an easy tap in, but he pulled off a handful of good saves to deny the home side from going further ahead throughout the 90 minutes. Connor McLaren's chances were limited throughout the game, and the winger was replaced on 70 minutes, but an inspired Clyde defence made it difficult for any of the Elgin attacker to fashion any attempts that would have the goalkeeper worried. Kyle Lander was eventually introduced to play just 8 minutes from time, but the young striker couldn't find a goal to get his side back into the game.

Montrose

Jordan Millar, Neil Martynuik and Aaron Comrie all played a full 90 in Montrose's 1-1 draw with Queens Park at the weekend. The away side had numerous chances to win the game at Links Park, but the fans were treated to a stalemate as both sides moved a place down the league table.

Peterhead

Peterhead's Ally Gilchrist has been superb for Peterhead since going on loan last summer, and has even helped himself to a few goals, and he was another who played the full game against Stenhousemuir on Saturday, conceding only once and contributing to four goals at the other end.

Spartans

George Hunter is back in familiar surroundings after he went back to Spartans on loan, and he also played the full game as his side beat won 1-0 against Stirling University thanks to a 89th minute winner.

Whitehall Welfare

Young striker Greg Kerr was in the starting lineup for Whitehall Welfare's game against Gala Fairydean Rovers, and his side ran out 3-0 winners. Though Kerr couldn't get himself on the scoresheet, that result saw Gala get back to winning ways in front of a crowd of 324 at Ferguson Park.
