Saints preparations suffer a setback

It hasn’t proved to be a good day at the office as the build up to the new season continues.

Saints came up against a touring Romanian side in Glasgow this afternoon and were soundly beaten by four goals to nil and more importantly two players picked up injuries which make them doubtful for the game against Inverness CT on Saturday.

Derek McInnes told the Saints Official Website this evening “We didn’t get off to a good start – Kevin James was injured in the pre-match warm up and Steven Anderson went over on his ankle after only five minutes and both of them will struggle for Saturday. That meant we had to play Steven Doris at full-back and Gary Irvine as one of the central defenders so it was far from ideal.”

However, there were positives for the gaffer who continued, “They were a very fit, strong, impressive side who are much more advanced in their preparation than we are – they will play in the UEFA Cup this season - and even allowing for the injuries I’ve no complaints about the score. However, it was a really great work out for the rest of the players – a real step up from earlier games and that is just what I wanted at this stage of the preparations.”
