TEN MAN SAINTS BATTLE FOR OPENING DAY POINT

Saints have opened the SPL season with a point from a 1-1 draw against Hearts at Tynecastle.

They had to work hard for it - Steven Anderson was red carded 15 minutes from time for a reckless tackle - but the side defended magnificently with Michael Duberry a stand-out all afternoon. The former Chelsea man topped a great performance with a great headed goal-line clearance in the final minutes of the match.

Hearts opened the scoring just on the stroke of half-time through Elliot but Saints bounced back immediately and before the interval whistle had sounded it was 1-1 thanks to Sam Parkin's stooped header from a Cleveland Taylor cross.

Manager Derek McInnes has defensive worries though - Steven Anderson is now suspended for the game against Aberdeen next Saturday and Danny Grainger looks set to miss some games after picking up a knee injury in the first half today.
