Fans braved the rain and sleet to cheer Saints onto a resounding 3-0 victory over Hamilton Accies on Saturday afternoon, a result which takes Tommy Wright's men level on points with fourth placed Hearts in the Scottish Premiership league table.

McDiarmid Park saw a significant jump in attendance this afternoon from our recent home matches against teams with a similar travelling support to Hamilton.

Attendances in November games against Ross County (2,554) and December Inverness CT (2,549) were surpassed by today's crowd of 3,279. It was also a 594 increase on the attendance against the same opposition in January 2016.

Saints boss Tommy Wright said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to the fans for coming out. Hopefully on the back of the win today we'll get fans who have come here for the first time who will not only come to our game against Celtic next week but then come again for the week after that for the Scottish Cup match with Partick. If we can get 300, 400 or 500 new fans to games on a regular basis it makes a big difference to this club."

Saints' Ross Cunningham said: "I'd also like to say thank you on behalf of the club to all of the supporters who braved the elements today to come and support their local team to a fantastic win over Hamilton.

"From speaking to families in the Ormond Stand I know a lot of them were coming for the first time so I hope they've enjoyed the matchday experience and will want to come back to McDiarmid Park again soon. We'll be in touch with a lot of them next week to get some important feedback.

"To get 600-800 extra people to come to this match on the back of the #PaintItBlue campaign is a big acheivement, and a huge step forward in creating a new generation of St. Johnstone fans.

"Well done to all the players, staff and fans involved with #PaintItBlue this week, especially to our School Engagement Manager, Megan Moss, who was hugely influential in this campaign."

The spearhead of #PaintItBlue was a promotional video featuring players, supporters and club staff lip-syncing to 1999's 'Blue (Da Ba Dee)' by Italian dance act Eiffel 65. The video has been seen by just shy of 50,000 people on Saints YouTube channel as well as being broadcast on BBC and STV, and receiving recognition through online media outlets including Fox Sports in the USA.

St. Johnstone's next home match is on Sunday 5th February at home to Celtic. This is an all-ticket match and tickets can be bought from the McDiarmid Park Tichet Office on weekdays between 9.30am-5pm. For more admission information please click HERE.
