LOAN WATCH | Mixed fortunes for loanees

2nd April 2019

Tuesday 2 April 2019

Of the six Saints players currently out on-loan it was only Steven Anderson and Ali McCann in action at the weekend for Partick Thistle and Stranraer respectively.

Ando notched another goal for Thistle in a vital victory in their relegation battle while Ali played the full 90 minutes in a disappointing away defeat for the Ladbrokes League One outfit.

Steven Anderson (Partick Thistle)

Experienced defender Steven Anderson scored his third goal for Partick Thistle in a big 3-0 victory for Gary Caldwell's men against Morton which saw The Jags climb to 8th in the Ladbrokes Championship table.

Ando has been nominated for the club's Player of the Month Award for March having previously won the accolade in February.

Speaking about the 33-year-old after the match, Caldwell said: “He’s an old school defender for the most part. He likes making blocks and heading the ball which makes him a vital player for us in defence. Also, he’s constantly talking and helping those around him which makes the whole backline better.

“On top of that, he’s popped up with a few goals and having threats like Ando at offensive set pieces is brilliant for us and gives us more options when we’re creating our routines.”

Next up for Ando and Partick is a home fixture against Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday.

Ali McCann (Stranraer)

Stranraer fell to a 3-1 defeat at the weekend away to Montrose in a result which doesn't help the Stair Park outfit's relegation troubles.

It leaves the club in 9th place in the Ladbrokes League One table having played a game more than 8th place Brechin City.

Before the defeat to Montrose, the Stranraer manager Stevie Farrell praised the young midfielder and tipped him for success in the future.

"Ali has been excellent. What a chance he has to go far. He has a terrific attitude and matches that with wonderful application.

"The reason I think he will go on and become a success is that he is a listener. He is prepared to take everything on board."

Next up for Ali and Stranraer is Forfar this Saturday at 3PM who are managed by 2019 Hall of Fame inductee Jim Weir.

Kyle McClean (Linfield) and Cammy Ballantyne, Euan O'Reilly & Ben Quigley (BSC Glasgow)

Kyle McClean and Linfield are back in action on Friday night after a few weekends off and they face Ballymena in the Danske Bank Premiership.

BSC Glasgow and the young Saints trio of Ballantyne, O'Reilly and Quigley have also had a couple of weekends off from competitive action. They're back in action this weekend and face Dalbeattie Star at The Indodrill Stadium on Saturday in the Lowland League.
