Match Preview: Partick Thistle v Saints

9th September 2016

Saints head to Partick Thistle tomorrow afternoon looking to bounce back from two straight defeats.

Saints head into tomorrow’s away trip to Partick Thistle looking to bounce back from defeat at the hands of Inverness CT before the international break. Partick came out on top in each encounter with Saints last season, winning 2-1 twice at McDiarmid and defeating St Johnstone 2-0 at Firhill in February. The Saintees have no fresh injury concerns approaching the game. New loan signing Joe Gormley played in the development squad’s midweek match with Ross County and is expected to be in the squad but the fixture is likely to come too soon for Keith Watson.

Partick themselves will be looking to get back to winning ways, having lost every game since their 2-0 victory against Inverness on the opening day. The Jags lost 2-1 to Hearts last time out and currently sit 11th in the table, but have played a game less than St. Johnstone.

When asked about Saints' record against the Maryhill outfit last season, Tommy Wright said: “It seemed like everything they hit against us last season went into the top corner, taking nothing away from their performances. Team squads have slightly changed and it is a totally new season, so I don’t think last season’s results will have any bearing on Saturday.” He also said: “They are attack-minded and we know it is going to be a difficult game. But if our motivation is what happened last season then we have a problem."
