MATCH PREVIEW | Saints vs Aberdeen

13th December 2017

Wed 13 December 2017

Wednesday 13th December

Saints latest test during the busy month of December comes tonight when Aberdeen visit McDiarmid Park.

The midweek fixture will already be Saints third game of the month as all Premiership sides jockey for position heading into the New Year.

The form table suggests that the tie could easily go either way. After respective 1-0 away wins at the weekend against Hamilton and Dundee, both Saints and Aberdeen have taken seven points from their last possible eighteen.

With so many fixtures taking place in such a short space of time, squad rotation will likely be necessary to keep the Saints squad as fresh as possible during the festive period. For Wednesday’s match, Tommy Wright should welcome back the returns of Steven MacLean and Chris Millar. However, Denny Johnstone remains a doubt after picking up an illness since the Hamilton fixture.

Aberdeen will be looking to kick on with their season after the recent news that manager Derek McInnes will be remaining at Pittodrie. Stevie May is set to make his first return to McDiarmid Park since his summer move back to Scotland. In other team news for the Dons, Gary Mackay-Steven should come back into the squad but Greg Tansey is set to miss out with a groin injury.

In the one previous meeting between Saints and Aberdeen this season, the Dons ran out 3-0 winners at Pittodrie thanks to a hat-trick from Adam Rooney. This disappointing result will likely be all the motivation Tommy Wright needs to inspire his players to success come 7.45pm tonight
