Saints are sad to report the passing over the weekend of two former employees – a coach/interim manager and a player.

Bobby Grant was a winger who spent a couple of seasons at Muirton Park and played six games for the club in season 1961/62, scoring one goal – the only goal of the game in a notable 1-0 League Cup sectional tie at Celtic Park.

Grant – father of well-known former player and current club employee Roddy – also listed Rangers, Leyton Orient, Chelmsford, Gloucester and Stirling Albion as his clubs.

Also at the weekend, Roger Hynd passed away at the age of 75. Rangers, Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and Walsall were Roger’s clubs as a player and he also had a spell as manager of Motherwell.

Hynd had a spell as a coach at Muirton Park with a specific remit to train the players from the west of Scotland and when Alex Stuart was sacked in April 1980, Roger had a six game spell as interim manager before the appointment of Alex Rennie.

The thoughts of everyone at the club go to the families of both men at this sad time.
