A second half hat-trick from striker John Robertson was not enough this afternoon as Saints U20s drew 3-3 with their Partick Thistle counterparts at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.

It was a cagey start to the match for both sides however, The Jags took the lead on 13 minutes when Calum Wilson finished from close range following a ball into the box by Ross Fleming. Then from the kick off Partick doubled their advantage as they regained the ball and James Stokes found Adam Fitzpatrick in the box who calmly slotted the ball past Ross Sinclair.

Saints tried to find a way back into the game but the closest they came during the first half was 5 minutes before half time when Greg Hurst fired a ball across the face of the Thistle goal but there were no takers as Milan Nitriansky cleared the danger.

On 53 minutes Saints pulled a goal back courtesy of a 25-yard free kick from John Robertson. The Saints striker then levelled the match on 71 minutes when he found himself free on the left and he fired a strike past Jamie Sneddon in the home goal.

Then with 5 minutes remaining Robertson rounded off his hat-trick to complete a spectacular comeback as he lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box.

The action was not over as with a minute remaining Thistle equalised as Ross Fleming’s deep cross picked out the unmarked James Stokes at the back post and he knocked the ball under Sinclair to rescue a point for the Jags.
