Wednesday 9th August
Last night, Saints were knocked out of the Betfred Cup at the Second Round stage after falling to a 3-0 home defeat to Partick Thistle.
All three of The Jags' goals came in the second half with strikes from Lawless, Edwards and Erskine.
St. Johnstone get back to league business on Saturday when Motherwell come to McDiarmid Park.
St Johnstone made three changes from last Saturday's win at Kilmarnock, bringing in Liam Craig, Michael O'Halloran and Steven MacLean for Stefan Scougall, Paul Paton and Graham Cummins against League Cup opponents Patrick Thistle.
Patrick got the game underway.
The first chance came for Thistle on 10 minutes when Kevin Nisbet was played down the left hand side and passed Steven Anderson with ease but Joe Shaughnessy was there to block the shot from the young striker.
On 21 minutes Partick came close again through Nisbet as he tackled Shaughnessy in a dangerous area and took a shot 3 yards out but Mannus was there with strong hands to punch it away and Saints cleared their lines.
After a good delivery from a corner, Craig made his way to the edge of the area and found the ball, took a shot but couldn't get enough power behind it and it went straight into the hands of the waiting Tomas Cerny.
After some great passing on the edge of the area Richard Foster's soft effort was found my MacLean and his shot was touched away by Cerny but the linesman had already flagged for offside.
Moments later a Foster throw-in found David Wotherspoon who dinked the ball over the top of the defender and was in space in the box but his effort went just wide.
Again Foster was involved as he found O'Halloran in the box who laid it off for Wotherspoon but his powerful shot went over the bar from 22 yards out.
On 44 minutes O'Halloran was played into the box by Brian Easton, and the loanee cut a pass back to Craig, but the former Hibernian midfielder couldn't find his feet and the ball went behind him and was cleared away.
Saints get the second half underway.
In the 49th minute Partick were awarded a penalty as Anderson brought down Nisbet. Steven Lawless converted to make it 1-0 to the Glasgow side.
A well worked free kick with Scougall and O'Halloran linking up saw Wotherspoon chip the ball into a wonderful area for Anderson, but the Saints captain was unable to direct his effort towards goal.
Ryan Edwards doubled Patrick's lead on 61 minutes. The Australian was fed the ball from a throw in and managed to run and then curve his shot into the top right corner beyond Mannus' reach.
Just after St. Johnstone created their best chance of the night. Wotherspoon played a delightful ball right into the path of substitute Cummins who managed to race past the Partick defence to shoot but his powerful effort went just wide of the post.
There was a massive penalty claim for Saints on 86 minutes when O'Halloran was clambered to the ground but the ref ignored the crowd's roars and played on.
The final blow came in the 89th minute when Nisbet's touch found Erskine who ran past Anderson and fired a low shot past Mannus to make it 3-0 to Partick Thistle.
