Saints announce first recruit of the summer

The club is delighted to announce that an agreement has been reached to sign 23-year-old English midfielder, Drey Wright, on a two-year-deal from Sky Bet League Two side Colchester United at the end of his current contract.

Wright – who has only ever played for Colchester having progressed through the club’s academy – made his first-team debut for the Essex outfit back in 2012 and joins Saints on a free transfer in July.

The right-sided midfielder has made 148 appearances for Colchester in all competitions, scoring nine goals. He has turned out for the club in both League One and League Two across six seasons in the United first-team.

Speaking about his first recruit of the summer, Saints boss Tommy Wright said: “Drey is a player we’ve watched over a period of time and we were aware that his contract was coming to an end.

“He’s played in a variety of roles for Colchester United but I see him as a right-sided attacking player and I’m confident that he’ll contribute much to the team both in terms of goals and assists.

“The Chairman and I have put a lot of hard work into this and I’m delighted to have the player on board.”

Wright made 43 league appearances last campaign for Colchester, netting three times.
