Saints head to Station Park

Saints head to Station Park to take on Forfar Athletic tomorrow afternoon, in the final match of the Betfred Cup group stage.

Tommy Wright's men sit top of Group B going into the final match and the manager knows that a positive result against The Loons - managed by former Saints defender Jim Weir - will be enough to secure qualification to the next phase of the competition.

Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Falkirk was the club's second victory on the bounce, and the Saints defence is yet to concede a goal in the competition.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's match, the manager said he is looking to build on the positive start his side have made but isn't expecting it to be an easy game at Station Park.

"One thing that's pleased me is that we've been improving with every game," Tommy commented, "and we've managed to keep three clean sheets which has given us a good basis to go on and win matches.

"We've also dealt well with pressure situations over all three matches, starting with the penalty shootout win against East Fife.

"We then had a must-win game against Montrose because had we lost out there we'd have been struggling to progress. I'd also say the Falkirk game was a must-win and we came through that comfortably so it's been very pleasing.

"We know that all we need from the match tomorrow is a draw but we're not going in with that attitude and we all want to win the game."

With this being the third game in the space of a week, Tommy says he will be making changes for the match to try and get his players as much game time as possible before the start of the Ladbrokes Premiership season.

"It's early in the season and when you've got such a busy schedule it's important to make changes," the manager said.

"The good thing is that with the squad we've put together, making the changes doesn't weaken the team because we've got a lot of quality throughout."

New signing Matty Kennedy - who made his debut as a sub against Falkirk on Tuesday night - is one player who will get some more minutes under his belt this weekend.

"Matty hasn't had a pre-season but he's a tremendously fit guy. He just needs to get some more minutes and so do some of the other players.

"Tomorrow is one opportunity but we also have a friendly behind closed doors on Monday against Hearts where the players who maybe haven't played enough will get game time to ensure they are ready for the first league game against Kilmarnock next Saturday."
