Saints ready for Bairns battle

Saints welcome Falkirk to McDiarmid Park tonight in the club's penultimate game of the Betfred Cup group stage.

Tommy Wright's side sit second in the group, one point behind leaders Montrose having played a game less. Tonight's opponents Falkirk - managed by former Saints midfielder, Paul Hartley - lie in third place in the group having won one and lost the other of their two games so far.

New Saints signing Matty Kennedy is still awaiting international clearance following his arrival on Saturday and could feature, but Joe Shaughnessy, Brian Easton, Chris Kane, Ali McCann and Greg Hurst all remain sidelined.

Speaking to the official website ahead of tonight's match, Tommy is expecting a tough contest against the Championship opponents.

"Falkirk recovered well after losing their opening game," Tommy said, "and they know that if they were to win their remaining two fixtures they can still progress as well so it’s all to play for.

"They are a decent side but they come here knowing that they need to win the match and that could suit us.

"I haven’t watched them personally but Alec Cleland has and we have done our homework so we feel well prepared for the match.

"It’s going to be more about what we do ourselves at the end of the day and the players know what’s expected of them tonight.

"There’s still a lot of work to be done and a win only takes us to eight points. Montrose could still better that so we need positive results in both of our final two games.

"Realistically five points is probably going to be enough but we’re aiming to win both games and take maximum points."
