John Robertson’s days as a prolific striker may be behind him but he can still cut the mustard on the golf course.
The Hearts legend was playing in Team Preston, which captured the honours at the Sidey backed Dave Mackay Testimonial Golf Day held at Blairgowrie.
Radio Scotland pundit and former Saints favourite Allan "Biscuits" Preston had to call in a last-minute sub when work commitments ruled him out of the event.
Preston’s fellow Duddingston club members Robbo, Tam Ebbs, Keith Sands and Max Christie didn’t let him down, edging out Liam Craig’s side on a countback, after clocking up 81 points over the Lansdowne course. Sharing third spot were Stephen Gardiner Construction and M&S Accountancy.
Former Saints skipper Mackay was joined at the event which kicked off his testimonial year by Perth manager Tommy Wright, chairman Steve Brown and current captain Steven Anderson.
Testimonial committee chairman Scott Findlay said: “The course was in excellent condition and Blairgowrie looked after us very well. It is a top class venue.
“We are grateful for the support from all the teams and hole and raffle prize sponsors, along with main sponsor Sidey and supporters Booker, Belhaven, Carbon Financial Partners, Bannerman Decorators, St. Johnstone FC and Highland Spring.
“It was a great start to Cuptie’s testimonial year, with a match to be arranged and a September dinner also planned.”
