Traffic update for supporters

As work continues on the major road infrastructure around McDiarmid Park and following on from the delays experienced before and after the match against Hibernian two weeks ago, the club is pleased to advise that following discussions with various relevant authorities and parties, agreement has been reached for new travel and access arrangements specifically for supporters of away clubs visiting the stadium.

These instructions have and will be made available direct to the supporters of those visiting clubs.

However, this arrangement should have the knock-on effect of leaving the two gates from the stadium car park which lead directly onto the A85 Crieff Road for the use of home supporters only and a resultant lowering on the demands on those two gates, particularly at the end of matches.

The effectiveness of the new arrangements will be carefully monitored tomorrow and supporters who wish to use the stadium car park are asked to keep in mind the following:

• Due to loss of land, the car park has a reduced capacity and will fill quickly so be sure to arrive early if you wish to use it.

• At the end of the game, it has to be kept in mind that three or four thousand people are all leaving a major event at the same time onto local roads which are already busy with Saturday afternoon traffic heading to or returning from large local retail outlets, the adjacent A9 bypass and a major trunk route to west Perthshire. Delays are inevitable.

• Stewards and Police are there to do their best to aid egress in a controlled, fair and safe manner but unless specifically instructed to do so by the Match Commander and then only on the grounds of public safety and only Police officers, neither are empowered to stop traffic on the Crieff Road.

• The club will not tolerate supporters who abuse club car park stewards in any way and anyone doing so will be reported back to the club.

Finally, home supporters are asked to carefully note that part of the new arrangement for visiting supporters involves cars and buses entering the car park from the new gate at the north end of the stadium but this route is solely for away supporters and any home fans using this gate will find themselves in the wrong part of the car park and in the wrong area for egress to local roads.
