The club is delighted to announce that 29-year-old midfielder David Wotherspoon has agreed a two-year-contract-extension which will keep him at McDiarmid Park until May 2021.

David - a Bridge of Earn lad - joined Saints from Hibs back in 2013 and was part of the Scottish Cup-winning team in his first season with his boyhood club.

He has made over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions and has now committed himself to Saints for a further two seasons.

Speaking to the club's official website, David said he was delighted to commit his future to Saints and now wants push forward and help his side achieve a top six finish.

"I'm really happy to be staying here for another two years," the Canadian international said.

"I think this Saints squad now is the strongest we've had since I've been here. It's great being a part of it and hopefully we can kick on now and finish off the season strongly."

David has played over 200 games for Saints and with this new deal taking him up to 2021, the midfielder is already looking ahead to potentially extend his stay even further.

"I've played the last two full games and hopefully I can continue in the side," he said.

"Hopefully I can keep my place but it is a very strong squad we've got here now and there's great competition for places.

"The possibility of staying here longer and maybe getting to ten years is in the back of my mind but first and foremost I am focusing on right now and helping the club to progress.

"I'm looking forward to the next two years and helping us push up the league and go as far as we possibly can."

And David also praised his manager Tommy Wright for how important he's been to his career since arriving from Hibs in 2013 and believes that he can guide Saints back into the top six again come the end of the season.

"The manager has been brilliant for me and he's always really honest," David said.

"His door is always open for a chat and he's been really good for me personally throughout my time here.

"Our aim is to get back in that top six because we didn't achieve that last year and I think overall we're doing really well this season so far.

"We really want to finish strongly and get in that top six then start looking to fight for the places above that."

The Manager also spoke to the official website about David's contract extension.

"I'm delighted David has signed a new two-year-deal," said Tommy.

"He was one of my first signings at the club and has been an integral part of our success over the past few seasons.

"From a manager’s point of view, he’s a real asset as he can fulfil two or three different positions.

"I’m happy his future has been secured here for the next two and half years."
