NEW RECRUIT READY FOR A FRESH CHALLENGE New signing David Robertson admits that the need for a change of scenery and the lure of working with Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty have proved pivotal in his decision to sign for St Johnstone.

The 24 year old midfielder has rejected “other offers” to put pen to paper on a two year deal at McDiarmid Park, ending a decade-long association with Dundee United and after doing so he told the Saints Official Website, “I’ve been at Tannadice since I was fourteen years old and had eight years as a pro so it is a wrench to leave – the last game of the season against Hearts on Sunday was quite emotional. But I need a change of scenery and this feels right. United wanted to hang onto me and there was even talk of a testimonial but I’m only 24!”

When the players resume training David will join up with some well known faces: he played under Derek McInnes at Tannadice, Tony Docherty was his youth coach and he played alongside Steven Anderson.

“Derek and Doc are incredibly enthusiastic about what they are doing at Perth and are looking to make some quality signings. I want to be part of that and the top six in the SPL has to be the aim.”

The Manager is delighted to have made his first capture of the close season and said: “Doc and I have known David for a long time and we are delighted he has chosen to join us. He is very experienced and will bring a goal threat from the middle of the park. He is very professional and has a great engine and I know that other SPL clubs were after him so I’m delighted he is here.”

McInnes is chasing other targets hard and hopes to be able to announce a further one before the end of the week. One of those targets is Dundee winger Craig Forsyth and the Perth manager has revealed that the club have made him an offer but with others circling it remains to be seen if he will choose to join Saints.”
