SAINTS WIN OPENING PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY Saints beat Arbroath 2-0 in tonight’s friendly at Gayfield Park thanks to goal from Liam Craig and Kevin Moon.

Moon had come closest to scoring in the first half, firing a shot off the cross bar after good lead-up play involving the trialist striker.

The second half was only a minute old when we broke the deadlock, Sean Higgins and Stevie May involved in a build-up which allowed Liam Craig to lift the ball over the Lichties keeper from 12 yards.

The home side, who had no fewer than seven ex-Saints on show, rallied and came close to scoring through three of them – Paul Sheerin, Josh Falkingham and Kieran McAnespie – but Saints sealed it right at the death through Kevin Moon who converted a Liam Caddis cross at the back post.

Saints: Enckelman, Mackay (Caddis), C Davidson (Trialist), McCracken, Wright, Trialist (May), Millar (M Davidson), Moon, Craig, Trialist (Trialist), Finnigan (Higgins).
Subs not used: Clark, Rodgers, Moffat, Reynolds, McIntosh

One of the trialists listed was defender Alan Maybury who the manager hopes to bring back to the club for next season.

After the game Manager Derek McInnes said: “After all the training and hard work on the physical aspects, this is where the football begins and I was pleased with the outcome. We were rusty, there is no doubt about that, and Arbroath gave us a very competitive match.”
