SAINTS HAVE TO SETTLE FOR A DRAW IN DROGHEDA Saints have kicked off their two match stint in Ireland with a 1-1 draw against Drogheda United tonight.

Both the goals came in the first half with a Frazer Wright own goal being cancelled out by a first goal for former Falkirk striker Carl Finnigan.

All six summer recruits started the game for Derek McInnes’s side and there were also a start for Alan Maybury – the defender who played for us last season has agreed a 12 month deal which will be finalised on his return to McDiarmid Park.

Saints nearly found themselves a goal behind after just 20 seconds when keeper Peter Enckelman fluffed his clearance from Callum Davidson’s back pass and David McCracken rode to the rescue as Darragh Satell’s resultant shot headed goalwards.

Saints got into their stride though and Sean Higgins twice came close as did Liam Craig. The former Dundee man shot wide from 16 yards and then fired a free kick over the bar before Liam let rip from 30 yards but his effort rose over the target.

However, the home side broke the deadlock six minutes before the interval and it came from the head of new defender Frazer Wright whose back header from 25 yards caught Enckelman unawares and slid into the net.

The former Kilmarnock defender almost scored at the right end just seconds later but his header came back off the Drogheda bar.

However, two minutes from the interval Carl Finnigan pulled Saints level with a superb right foot finish from a tight angle.

A second half which saw former Saint Marcus Haber appear as a trialist brought no further goals although Murray Davidson was denied a late winner by the Drogheda keeper at close quarters after being played in by Liam Caddis.
