Perth-born midfielder who was part of the successful 17 side in 2003/2004, Kevin made a few reserve team appearance towards the end of that season and joined the full-time ground staff in the summer of 2004. Kevin played a pivotal role in the success of the Under 19 squad, which won the Under 19 League championship in 2004/2005, and although injury restricted his 2005/06 season, he did manage to make his first two first team appearances from the bench during that campaign. The start of season 2006/2007 saw Kevin in a difficult situation - too old for the Under 19s but not a regular in the first team squad and for that reason he went on loan to Forfar Athletic - his initial spell until 31st December being extended to the end of the season. The then Saints manager Owen Coyle rated Kevin highly and extended his stay at McDiarmid Park into the 2007/08 season and he featured in a few pre-season games as a precursor to appearances from the bench once the season got underway. On being appointed successor to Coyle, Derek McInnes made it known he was an admirer of Moon's talents and the youngster was given a start against Clyde on 29 December 2007 capping a fine performance with a 90th minute goal and he was the match winner again in January 2008 when he netted against Stirling Albion. The midfielder committed himself to Saints for 2008/09 and proved a useful option in the middle of the park for manager McInnes who likes the player’s energy and vision in the engine room of the team and he emphasised that fact by arranging a two year extension to that deal in January 2009. Kevin played an increasingly influential role in the side as the team stayed on track, after a disappointing start to the season, to secure the First Division Championship. Mooner was still troubled with injury as Saints embarked on their SPL campaign but nevertheless he managed 16 appearances and looked entirely comfortable in the SPL arena until disaster struck in the home game against Aberdeen on 16th March when he suffered cruciate ligament damage which looks set to keep him out of action until September.
