Tony Watt

Tony Watt joined Saints in July 2018 and arrived at McDiarmid Park with a big reputation and a vast amount of experience for his age.

Starting his career as a 16-year-old at Airdrie, Tony attracted interest from some of the UK's biggest football clubs including the likes of Liverpool and Rangers but in the end signed for his boyhood heroes Celtic in January 2011.

He made his first-team debut for the Parkhead club in April 2012 scoring a brace within five minutes of coming on in a 3-0 victory over Motherwell. He would go on to make his Champions League debut the following season and scored Celtic's second goal in their memorable 2-1 victory over Barcelona in November of that year.

First-team opportunities became limited at Celtic and Tony left Scotland to join Belgian club Lierse on-loan. He departed Celtic on a permanent basis the season after to sign for Belgian giants Standard Liege but within six months he returned to the UK to sign for Charlton Athletic.

Loan spells with Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City and Hearts would follow before Tony decided to return to Belgium and joined OH Leuven.

Although he signed a one-year-deal with the Belgian outfit, he left in February 2018 and spent almost six months without a club before being signed by Tommy Wright on a free transfer.

He made a quick start to life at Saints netting in a pre-season friendly against Berwick Rangers just hours after signing for the club. His first competitive goal for Saints came in the League Cup clash with Montrose before netting again a week later in the same competition against Forfar Athletic.

His first league goal came in the home draw with Hibernian in the second match of the Premiership season before he netted a brace the following weekend in the League Cup victory over Queen of the South. He scored for the third consecutive match with the only goal in the 1-0 win over Dundee at McDiarmid Park and was awarded the Ladbrokes Premiership Player of the Month for August.
