Head coach Simo Valakari was delighted with the start to pre-season as we defeated Forfar 4-0 at Station Park.
It was a first run out in front of supporters for the Saints as we continue our build-up to the start of the competitive action later this month.
Speaking after the game, Simo said: “It was nice to get back out there in front of our supporters again. The boys have been training very well and they have been waiting to get out there to play again.
“I have to say, 4-0 win, clean sheet, four good goals, great combinations, created a lot, so overall I am very, very happy.
“You have to remember that during pre-season teams are at different stages of their preparations for the new season. That is why it is even more important to look at what our team is doing.
“During these pre-season games, I am looking for the body language, the behaviour of our players, what is happening when we lose the ball, do we track back etc.
“Today I was very pleased with all of these things. When we lost the ball the whole team was running back. Yes we lost the ball a couple of times but that can happen in these games.
“You are not always the most fresh when you are playing these games, but that is why it is important to see the right attitude and chemistry between the players. As I say, I was pleased with how we performed as a team.”
On the new additions to our squad and how they have settled into the team, Simo added: “The new guys have blended very well with our team. That is a credit to the players who have been here and set the standards and the foundations.
“The new boys come with their qualities and characteristics and that adds to our team. As I say it is still early days but the hard work continues.”
