We defeated Linlithgow Rose in our opening match of the Premier Sports Cup.
Goals from Kai Fotheringham and Ruari Paton secured an opening day victory at Prestonfield and we now welcome Greenock Morton to McDiarmid Park on Saturday.
Speaking after the win, head coach Simo Valakari said: “The win was the most important thing, of course. These are the nights when there is always the potential for one of these ‘romantic’ cup shocks.
“We were playing a team who deserved our respect by winning their league last year and beating Morton in their first game.
“We have all seen many times how tricky and difficult nights like this can be. But our players showed total professionalism.
“We did not give them anything. From the start we squeezed them from the front.
“An early goal settled the nerves, we got another one and maybe we could have scored more.
“It was not easy but a clean sheet, two goals and three points is a very professional job. It was a mentally strong performance.”
Simo added: “We’re still early in the season so it’s understandable that there was a bit of a drop in the second half when players got tired.
“But the most important thing was getting the win, without having to throw everything at it in the second half. That pleased me a lot.
“Now we’ll look forward to our next challenge on Saturday.”
