Our Head Coach Simo Valakari proudly represented the Saints as Chieftain of Perth Highland Games yesterday.
Perth Highland Games is one of the city’s best-loved annual events, attracting competitors and spectators from across Scotland and beyond.
While heavyweight events, like the caber toss, are among the most famous attractions, Perth Highland Games also features Highland dancing, athletics, cycling, pipe bands and a range of family entertainment throughout the day.
The role of Chieftain is one of the most important traditions at a Highland Games and Simo was delighted to help celebrate the 200th anniversary.
He said: “I was truly honoured to have been invited to be the Chieftain of the Perth Highland Games this year.
“As someone who has been fortunate enough to make Scotland my home over the past few years, and during my time as a player at Motherwell, it was a very special privilege. I have grown to love this country, its people, its traditions and the incredible sense of community that exists wherever you go.
“The Highland Games are such an important part of Scotland’s history and culture. They celebrate strength, determination, togetherness and pride – values that are just as important in football as they are in everyday life.
“At St Johnstone, we are proud to represent Perth and the surrounding community, so it means a great deal to be part of an event that brings so many people together in such a positive way.
“I would like to thank the organisers for the wonderful opportunity and everyone who worked so hard to make the day possible.”
