Zach Mitchell: Hibs reaction

Zach Mitchell provided his thoughts after our 2-1 win against Hibs at McDiarmid Park.

The defender on loan from Charlton put in a determined – and composed – display as the Saints picked up an important three points.

He said: “It was a huge three points. All of the lads were delighted with the result.

“We came into the game off the back of a strong performance against Dundee, albeit we couldn’t quite get the finishing touch. That all came together against Hibs.”

On Josh Fowler’s double, he added: “Josh is always harsh on himself in training. But he has a great mentality. He is always looking to get himself in the best positions. You can count on him in moments like that. He did very well for us getting the two goals.”

He continued: “The team as a collective did really well. There are always going to be hard times in games, but you need to grind it out and do everything you can to get the result. That’s what we did.

“As a defender, I like chucking my body in front of the ball. But, on the flipside, when the game does get a bit end to end, how do we settle it and take the sting out of it?”

On his partnership with Cheick Diabate, Zach said: “We have a good bond on and off the pitch. I feel it has grown with every game. The centre-back partnership is obviously very important within the team.”

And on Wednesday game with Celtic: “Recovery will be important but all of the team is strict on that. We’ll prepare as best we can for the next game. We’re all relishing it.”
