A proud moment for Scott Bright

Friday night’s win over Ross County was extra special for defender Scott Bright, who made his first league appearance for the club as a second-half substitute.

Local to Perth, the 19-year-old captained our under-18s team to league and cup success before becoming more involved with the first team.

Scott has since spent time on loan at Berwick Rangers and more recently Brechin City, where he memorably scored a wonder goal against Hearts in the Scottish Cup last season.

Now, after making his league debut for Simo Valakari’s Saints, he is determined to kick on even further this season.

“It was a great moment for me,” he explained. “I have had a lot of experience already in friendlies and the Premier Sports Cup with the first-team, but to make my first league appearance was a fantastic moment.

“With my loan spells, I have played plenty of senior games. To make that first league appearance for St Johnstone was memorable though and hopefully I can kick on now.

“The gaffer spoke to me and said he wasn’t scared to play me because he can trust me. He has shown faith in me. It is good to know that he feels I can be trusted and can play at this level for the club.

“I had some lovely messages from family, friends and people I have worked with before in football. It is good to know I have that support around me.”
