St Johnstone WFC made it back-to-back wins on Sunday thanks to a well-earned 3-1 victory against Gartcairn at McDiarmid Park.
It proved to be a tight opening half on the astro as the teams headed in for the break with the scoreline locked at nothing each.
But there was soon a flurry of activity as Niamh Irvine put the Saints in front in the 52nd minute before Gartcairn levelled three minutes later through Jessica Linden.
Saints continued to push forward and Elvie McLean, fresh off her brace against Stirling University the week prior, put us back in front in the 79th minute. Steffi Simson wrapped up the victory as the final whistle approached.
Irvine joined Saints TV to reflect on the win.
She said: “The first half was nowhere near what we can do. We were sitting off them too much and letting them dictate the play.
“Second half we wanted to take the game to them more and we definitely did that. It was nice to add a goal myself because it’s something I’ve been looking to do.
“We’re creating a lot of chances, whether from the middle of the park or out wide. It can only be good when you are getting different goalscorers and when everyone is contributing.
“Confidence has been growing. We are starting to click and are implementing what the coaches are putting across to us.”
There is no league action for the Saints this coming Sunday. Next up are Dundee United at McDiarmid Park on November 2.
Irvine added: “The table is closing up and hopefully we can keep the performances up.
“It’s a shame the break has come but we’ll be back in training this week and working hard. It is another home game next up and we’ll all be up for it.
“It’s great to now be playing our games at McDiarmid Park. We’re getting used to the surface – and what is going on behind the scenes is great.
“The support and number of fans we’ve been getting has been amazing. The Riverside was great last season, but this is our home. We’re delighted to be back.”
