Everyone at the club is shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former player Liam Dunne at the age of only 54.
The Dublin-born midfielder was snapped up from Bohemians by Alex Totten in 1991 after he impressed in that summer’s FIFA World Youth Championship for Ireland and he spent a couple of seasons with newly promoted Saints.
Although never a regular in the starting XI, he rarely didn’t impress when picked and he frequently made an impact from the substitutes bench. Over his time at McDiarmid Park he made 15 starting appearances plus 12 from the bench and scored two goals.
Notably, Liam gained several caps for the Republic of Ireland’s Under 21 side during his time in Perth.
Less favoured by Totten’s successor John McClelland, Liam returned to Ireland where he enjoyed a long, varied and successful career on both sides of the border, notably in two spells with Crusaders but also Bohemians, Portadown and Dundalk.
The thoughts of everyone at St Johnstone are with Liam’s family and friends at this very sad time.
