St Johnstone WFC have a break from action this week before they head into the Scottish Cup on Sunday, December 7.

Queen’s Park will be the visitors to the McDiarmid Park astro and Saints will be looking to emulate their cup form of last season, which saw them reach the quarter-final stage.

A spirited display against Aberdeen Women wasn’t enough to book a spot in the last four, but manager Josh Henderson says the team can take great confidence from their efforts.

“We will of course be looking to go on a wee run again. We did well last year and cup games are a nice break from the league action,” Josh explained.

“Form going into these games goes completely out of the window and it is all down who is the better team on that day.

“We have Queen’s Park, they are a good side. We have already played them this season, so we have a good idea about them.

“They have good players, but we need to concentrate on ourselves and be up for the game. We need to have it in our head that we can make it through to the next round.”

On last year’s Scottish Cup run, Josh continued: “It would be great to go on a run again. We of course did that last year.

“We ended up falling short against Aberdeen, but that run gave us confidence for the remainder of the season.

“The players need to take confidence from last year. It is a one-off game and hopefully we can book our spot in the next round.”

Saints head into next week’s game following defeat to Kilmarnock in SWPL 2.

On the loss, Josh added: “It was a disappointing loss for us. We obviously knew that Kilmarnock are top of the league for a reason, but we gave them too much space and too much time.

“We are probably more disappointed with the way we conceded the goals. After our first-half it was a big ask in the second.

“We were disappointed as a team because we know we can do a lot better. We need to learn from it.

“Teams like Kilmarnock can hurt you. The last few results have hurt us a little bit so our confidence isn’t quite there at the moment.

“We need to get back to winning ways and hopefully the cup presents an opportunity for us. We can’t be feeling sorry for ourselves.”
