We’re sad to report the recent passing of two of the club’s oldest surviving ex-players.

Goalkeeper Doug Copland spent two seasons with Saints between 1955 and 1957, replacing another local lad Roy McLaren between the sticks midway through the 1955/56 season.

Making his debut against Stranraer in December 1955, Doug made a total of 44 appearances for Saints.  89-year-old Doug recently received a visit from club statistician Brian Doyle who chatted to him about his time with the club and presented him with a copy of the recently published book about Muirton Park.

Coincidentally, another player who had two seasons at Muirton Park around the same time has also passed away.

Indeed, one of full back Ally Rae’s two seasons with Saints overlapped with Doug and they featured together in several team lines from season 1956/57.

Signed from Blairgowrie in 1956 and making his debut against Stirling Albion, Ally made 38 appearances over the course of his two seasons at Muirton Park, scoring one goal and his passing has come at the age of 92.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with the families and friends of both these gentlemen at this time.
