TOUGH MATCH IN PROSPECT IN DINGWALL

Saints begin their defence of the SFL Challenge Cup

The preparations are over - the competitive football season begins tomorrow.

The league race kicks off next weekend and that, of course, is the priority but a first round Challenge Cup tie remains an important game as Saints set out on their defence of the trophy they secured in a thrilling Dens Park final last November.

There could be few tougher ties to open that defence than a trip to meet Ross County in Dingwall. Saints won twice there on cup business last season but the newly-promoted Staggies will be looking to fire out a warning shot to the rest of the First Division that they are ready for the new campaign.

Saints will definitely be without Kevin James, Alan Main and Kevin Moon but the manager, who captained the side to the trophy last season, has not ruled out the potential involvement of Jody Morris (pictured), Collin Samuel or Steven Anderson although the injury-induced lack of match action will obviously discount them from the starting line-up.

Kick off at Victoria Park is at 3pm.

Meanwhile, a young Saints side will be involved in the annual tournament hosted by Luncarty Juniors this weekend.

Tomorrow (Saturday), they face Kinnoull at Brownlands Park at 3pm (Luncarty meet Dundee North End at 1pm) and then on Sunday the 3rd/4th place game and the final take place at 12pm and 3pm respectively.
