Saints new keeper is ready for the big kick-off

New Saints goalkeeper Euan McLean is revelling in the build-up to the new season and is looking forward to the big kick off tomorrow.

The competitive season begins with a trip to meet Ross County in the First Round of the Challenge Cup in Dingwall and Euan will be between the sticks at Victoria Park. Having won the cup last season, Perth fans will be looking to do the same again and Euan is mindful of this.

He told the Saints Official Website, “The team did well to win it last season and I have heard some of the boys talk about it and how good a day the final at Dens Park was. I’m sure this isn’t the gaffer’s main priority – the league obviously is – but we are keen to retain the cup and certainly don’t want to start the season by losing in the first round.”

Euan may have stepped down from the SPL to the SFL to come to Saints but he doesn’t feel it is a bad move. The 6’ 2” stopper said “the facilities at McDiarmid Park are excellent and the gaffer has put together a good squad and there are some quality players here. I knew of Steven Anderson although I didn’t actually play with him at Tannadice but I had a couple of seasons with Sammy (Collin Samuel) and some of the other players in the squad have good reputations in the Scottish game.”

With Alan Main’s preparations for the 08/09 campaign having been halted in their tracks by the requirement for an operation on his shoulder, the new recruit from Dundee United has seen more pre-season match action than he perhaps anticipated but is thoroughly enjoying it.
