Saints entertaing Livingston in opening league fixture

The curtain goes up on the new league season tomorrow with Saints welcoming Livingston to McDiarmid Park for a 3pm kick-off.

The West Lothian side were the final visitors of last season, with Saints posting a 5-2 win and manager Derek McInnes would be delighted to make it “back-to-back” successes against Livvy to give Saints the good start they need.

Derek says “We are really looking forward to it. We have spoken to the players about the importance of gaining the win and getting some momentum going. This will be the first game of the season for many fans and I am looking to the team to play well – but I’ll take result over performance any day.”

The Manager has had the new-look Livingston side watched and took in their game goalless against Coventry earlier this week.

Derek is hugely frustrated that a handful of players are unavailable tomorrow due to injury. Steven Milne, Jody Morris, Kevin Moon, Alan Main and possibly Steven Anderson will all miss the game but the manager has received one bit of good news -Kevin James (pictured)is available having trained all week.

There will be no new full-back in time for tomorrow’s game but Derek stressed that he hasn’t given up hope of securing his preferred target for the vacant role. He said “We are still working hard to bring in the player I have identified. I’ve had a couple of set-backs but these days transfers are very rarely straightforward and you sometime have to be patient.

“Efforts are continuing to sign this player and we are also looking at other possibilities should this not work out.”
