Cheick Diabate: Morton reaction

Cheick Diabate was delighted with the performance at both ends of the pitch as the Saints defeated Morton 5-0 on Saturday.

The centre-half had another solid game at the back and, of course, was pleased with the clean sheet.

He said: “I thought the boys were brilliant from start to finish.

“It just felt like a good day. We had a lot of energy, even from the warm-up. We were great in possession. The strikers and defenders were on point. Everybody did well.

“If you keep a clean sheet, you don’t lose the game. Keeping a clean sheet is always important for the defenders. We pride ourselves on that.

“Hopefully there are more clean sheets to come this season.”

Cheick joked that he has been teaching Jamie Gullan how to hit free-kicks in training.

He laughed: “I taught him how to do that in training. The technique… I tell him how to hit it. It was amazing. I was right behind it.

“Hammer is a great player for us and he has contributed a lot to the team.”
