Ellie MacIver spoke of the amazing feeling and special team spirit after St Johnstone WFC secured their SWPL2 status with victory over East Fife.

The midfielder struck in the 93rd minute at McDiarmid Park to ensure Saints moved out of the relegation play-off spot.

She said: “We knew we had to be composed, play our game and focus on ourselves. I feel we did that really well in the first half.

“We had been working hard in training all week on passing, moving and getting out of areas. We did that very well, just needed another goal.

“Second half, we knew East Fife would come out with a lot of fight. We matched that, did our jobs and backed each other the whole way.

“We needed the right mindset and, even if there was a setback, we had to come back fighting. We did that perfectly.

“I’m really proud of everyone – and it was obviously nice to get the goal at the end, but my celebration was all over the place. To get the goal was an amazing feeling, but it is always a team effort.

“It is a long season, we’ve had ups and downs, but there was a lot of relief to get it over the line.”
