Hibs Match Preview
28th July 2022
Saints come into the first game of the season after a 1-0 victory over Ayr United in their final Premier Sports Cup tie.
However, an early Graham Carey goal wasn’t enough for Saints to advance to the knockout stages of the Premier Sports Cup. The only goal of the game came on 2 minutes as Carey volleyed home after Drey Wright’s ball into the box had only been half cleared by an Ayr United defender.
Hibs also failed to progress through the group stage of the cup after making hard work of their final game against Morton. Lee Johnson’s side drew 1-1 in the first 90 going on to lose the penalty shootout for the bonus point. However the result would be void as Hibs fielded an illegible player meaning the full 3 points went to Morton.
“We all know it’s going to be a tough league, as it is every year. We need to hit the ground running.
“It’s really important for us to build a solid squad with good characters which we’ve done through the signings we’ve made. Once we get the injured lads back to full fitness we’ll be in a really good place.
“Saturday will be a real test, we’re expecting a tight content but we will be ready for it. It’s important what we do off the ball as much as we do on it. If we get that balance right and create chances we’ll give ourselves every chance to get the 3 points.”
Tickets are still on sale for our first league game of the 22/23 season where we welcome Hibernian to McDiarmid Park.
