Jason Holt has enjoyed taking the reins of St Johnstone captaincy this season – and is focused on continually driving standards.
The experienced midfielder has played his part in a successful start to the William Hill Championship campaign at McDiarmid Park but knows there is no room for complacency.
Our skipper said: “I wanted to make a positive impact on the team when coming into the role at the start of the season.
“We’ve started positively but it is about trying to continue that and keeping the momentum going. Myself, Morgan and Sven are continually trying to lead the boys as best as we can by keeping the standards high.”
Jason added: “It doesn’t change too much on the pitch for me because I’ve always been someone who likes to drive standards and help my team-mates as much as possible.
“There is obviously a bit more responsibility with sorting things off the pitch and I’m more than happy to deal with that.

“The group is really good and that has been the case since we came back for pre-season. The gaffer has continued to add to the group. Not just good players, but good people too. That helps the dynamic of the squad, the dressing room and the environment.
“If you have a good, positive environment then more often than not it translates onto the pitch. I hope the fans can see that we’re a tight-knit group who are all pulling in the same direction. We’re all striving for the same goal.
“Winning games of football helps, of course. But whenever we come into our work, we try to keep it as positive as we can. The gaffer is adamant on that message and it is his personality – really positive and enthusiastic.”
The importance of the full squad was highlighted by Jason.
He said: “The hardest job in football is trying to keep everyone happy. It’s impossible to do.
“But even the boys who haven’t played as much as they would’ve liked are still coming on, bringing energy and making a positive impact on the game.
“There may be times throughout the season when we all find ourselves not playing or not involved. But it’s important to always be enthusiastic and supportive of the group.”
He continued: “On a personal level, I’m happy with my level of performance. But I strive to be better every single week. Not just myself, the whole squad does.
“We’ll continue to work hard, take one game at a time and not get too far ahead of ourselves. You can’t be complacent.”
