Jason Holt has spoken of the squad’s excitement following the first week back at pre-season training.
The experienced midfielder is no stranger to putting in the miles and is embracing the hard work as the Saints prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.
He said: “It has been great being back and seeing all the players and the staff.
“We had a well-earned break, which we all enjoyed. But coming towards the end of that time off, you really do look forward to getting back and starting the hard work.
“It has been tough, as you would expect. But there is still enjoyment. There are some new players in and there is just the excitement of the new season.
“You need to enjoy pre-season. I always look forward to coming into my work. I pride myself on being fit. You need to be robust and available for the manager throughout the season.”
The Premier Sports Cup kicks-off on Tuesday, July 14 away at Linlithgow Rose.
Jason said: “We all know how quickly the competitive fixtures come around. So we need to be in the best possible condition going into those games.
“Those games do still play a part in getting you to the level you want, but of course we want to win them. You want to get into a winning habit as soon as possible. The players are all looking forward to it.”
We’ll kick off our William Hill Premiership campaign at home to Kilmarnock on Sunday, August 2 (kick-off 2pm).
Jason added: “It will be great. Excitement builds when the fixtures are released. Even when the boys were coming off the training pitch, it was the first thing everyone was asking.
“We’ll keep building and make sure we’re ready to go for the first game of the season.”
