Jason Holt: Inverness reaction

Midfielder Jason Holt is pleased with the momentum that is building after we secured another Premier Sports Cup win on Saturday afternoon.

We left it late in the Highlands against Inverness but substitute Uche Ikpeazu produced the winning moment with a neat turn and finish in the 90th minute.

Holt said: “From 10 minutes in, until half-time, I felt that we controlled the game. We played some good stuff but needed to be more clinical in the final third.

“In the second half, the game probably got a bit more stretched than we would have liked. But we kept on going and knew, if we kept doing that, we would get a chance.

“Obviously Uche has come up with the goal. I’m delighted for the team and delighted for Uche too.”

Goalkeeper Toby Steward, on loan from Portsmouth, deserved his shutout with an assured performance between the posts.

Holt added: “Toby has done extremely well since he has come in. For a lad of his age, he has shown great maturity. I’ve been very impressed.

“We spoke before the game about the importance of clean sheets. If we can keep clean sheets, we will always create chances in this team.”

Raith Rovers are next up in the Premier Sports Cup and visit McDiarmid Park on Tuesday evening.

Holt said: “All the games are tricky. It’s about building momentum and winning two in a row puts us into a nice position going into the Raith Rovers game.

“It will be a tough game against opposition who will be in the same league. I think you can see momentum building but we can get better and there will be improvements before the start of the season.”
