Midfielder Joel Cotterill spoke of the fine margins in football after the Saints were edged out by Celtic at McDiarmid Park on Wednesday evening.
The visitors left Perth with a narrow 1-0 triumph thanks to Mika Baur’s second half goal.
But Saints had pushed hard and had a number of opportunities to find the back of the net, including Cotterill himself whose 19th minute first-time effort was impressively saved.
Cotterill said: “I think we need to look at the performance as a positive.
“We settled into the game well and we had chances. I think I need to score the chance I had. On another day it goes in, but it was a great save. It was one of the ones where, if I scuff it, maybe it goes in.
“We can be proud of the performance. If we take our chances, it could have been a different result.”
It was Cotterill’s first Premiership start for the club as attention now turns to Falkirk at McDiarmid Park next Saturday.
He said: “This club is perfect for me. I’ve settled in and the group and staff are amazing. That is what you want at any club.
“Now I just want to keep excelling and the performances can keep on getting better and better.
“We’ll have a couple of days to rest and recover, and look after ourselves over the weekend. Then we will attack next week. We’ll need energy for Falkirk next week and we’ll be looking to take our momentum into it.”
