Josh Fowler is planning to use his first St Johnstone goal as the platform for plenty more.

The striker produced a composed second half finish to give us the lead against Queen’s Park at The City Stadium on Tuesday night.

With the pressure of the first goal off his back, Fowler is determined to add more imminently.

He said: “I’ve been trying really hard and had been getting chances. I was really delighted to score and hopefully now they start rolling.

“It was a great ball from Josh [McPake] – he should’ve given me one in the first half too! He is a fantastic player and I knew when he got into that area that he would fizz it across. I was just glad to get onto the end of it.

“That is the monkey off the back, pressure off. I got brought here to score goals and that is what I am planning to do.”

There was disappointment late in the game when Queen’s Park found a leveller following a free-kick into the box.

Fowler added: “It was obviously really disappointing to concede that late on. I felt like we dominated the game with the ball and created chances. We just couldn’t put the game to bed. If you leave at 1-0, these things can happen.

“The last couple of games, we have still been creating chances but it’s just that last bit. We have a couple of new signings and are gelling together.

“It was not a loss. It was another point and now we need to dust ourselves down and kick on this Saturday.”

Ayr are the visitors to McDiarmid Park on Saturday and season ticket holders can bring a friend for a fiver.

Fowler added: “We’re back at home. You get a lift at home with all the fans there cheering you on. That will give us an extra boost on Saturday.”
