Liam Smith: Dunfermline reaction

Defender Liam Smith was quick to thank the travelling support following our 2-2 draw at East End Park.

The full-back netted his first goal for the club to give us the lead in the second half but the Pars retaliated in the final minutes.

In the opening half, Barney Stewart had opened the scoring before Reece McAlear’s wonderful free-kick tied-up proceedings at the break.

Liam said: “We conceded early but then played really well to come back and lead the game.

“We lost control in the last 20 minutes. We needed to do better when we were in control of the ball to see it out.

“But it is still a good point. It is a tough place to come and Dunfermline are a good side. Come the end of the season, it might be a good point.”

On Reece’s free-kick, Liam said: “I was looking to the box thinking he was going to whip it in. So he fooled me too. It was an unbelievable bit of technique and was the spark we needed to get back in the game.”

And on his own finish, he said: “We worked it nicely up the left and, when that is the case, the manager always encourages me to get around the box.

“I thought it might get cut back so I was there and ready for it. Thankfully, the shot has gone in.”

Liam continued: “The bulk of the performance was really good. We take that – and the previous two results – to build and go again next Saturday.

“It was an unbelievable travelling support. They were loud throughout and really tried to get us over the line.

“Their support from beginning to end was top class. We can only thank them and hopefully we will see them again next weekend.”
