Match Preview | Hibernian (H)

Two games left, two games to define the rest of our season.

Today we welcome Hibernian to McDiarmid Park for the second time this season for a 3 PM kick-off.

Many expected a Hampden hangover on Wednesday night, but the team did it's very best to ensure that this myth did not follow them.

Hamilton away, especially a night time kick-off three days after you have starred in a League Cup Final, is not an easy fixture. Both teams started the game with intent, creating chances inside the first 5 minutes; as the game went on, the Saints began to dominate possession.

However, Saints failed to make any clear cut chances with all that possession and on the 36th minute were made to regret it. Ross Callachan latched onto the ball at the edge of the Saints box and curled in an absolute beauty into the top left-hand corner, leaving Zander Clark with no chance.

The second half wasn't much different. Saints took control of the game but found it hard to break down Hamilton. It took until the 88th minute and a moment of pure class to finally penetrate the Hamilton defence; Liam Gordon dinked an inch-perfect through ball to Guy Melamed, who sprung in behind, snatched the ball out of the air with the most exquisite touch before stabbing it goalbound for the equaliser.

Wednesday night was a valuable point on the road in the quest for the top 6.

Today's opponents offer their own challenge. In the league, our record against them is one loss and one draw, but if you include Cup competitions, we have a win against them.

Hibernian, who started the season all guns blazing, have found their form dip in recent games, no more so than last week as they were beaten 2-0 by Motherwell at Easter Road.

Saints cannot let this result get the better of them as Hibernian are a team who are fighting to hold onto that 3rd place spot. Everyone at this stage of the season is fighting for something.
