We are delighted to confirm that the new safe standing section at the north end of the East Stand will officially open at this weekend’s fixture against Airdrieonians.
Official approval from Perth and Kinross Council was obtained on Wednesday and we look forward to welcoming supporters into the section for another big William Hill Championship fixture this Saturday.
We can also report the great news that the new lift in the Geoff Brown Stand has been given final approval by the council this week.
Chairman Adam Webb has provided the following message to supporters:
Saints fans, I am sorry I cannot attend such a momentous occasion, the opening of St Johnstone’s first standing area in nearly 40 years. Congratulations and thank you to all those who made this happen.
First, let me thank all of the supporters who gave financially to support this improvement. Secondly, let me thank the Fair City Unity for helping to raise funds and for pushing us constantly to make this happen.
I also want to thank one of our club’s most stalwart fans, Mike Wyllie, without whom we would not have reached this important milestone. Last, let me thank Daniel Lamb of our board and our whole facilities team for working so hard to complete this project, gaining council approval just this very week.
I hope that in a few years we can look back on this pivotal moment of opening the safe standing area and realise that it was something that secured the bond between our supporters and the club. A moment that really raised the atmosphere at McDiarmid Park and that brought the passion of our fans more directly into the players’ experience on the pitch, helping them to raise their game because of our enthusiasm.
